Het derde deel van de BBC documentaire The virtual revolution: The cost of free.
Aleks Krotoski zet haar onderzoek voort naar de wijze waarop het Wen bijna alles om ons heen transformeert. ‘She gives the lowdown on how, for better and for worse, commerce has colonised the web – and reveals how web users are paying for what appear to be ‘free’ sites and services in hidden ways’. Ze verkent in deze aflevering hoe webadvertenties steeds doelgerichter en relevanter worden voor individuele gebruikers. ‘Recommendation engines, pioneered by retailers such as Amazon, are also breaking down the barriers between commerce and consumer by marketing future purchases to us based on our previous choices’.
Aan de oppervlakte lijkt het web een gebruiksrevolutie te hebben teweeg gebracht. De prijs die we moeten betalen is onze privacy en het verlies van onze persoonlijke sfeer.
Opnieuw een niet te versmaden stukje film (waarbij overigens, zoals bij al dit soort documentaire, ook heel wat mitsen en maren te plaatsen zijn) !
Het tweede deel van de BBC documentaire The virtual revolution. Enemy of the state.
Krotosky onderzoekt hierin hoe het web de politiek beinvloedt en de strij omde macht in democratische en autocratische staten. Hij besteed ook aandacht aan de wijze waarop het internet de vrijheid van meningsuiting heeft gestimuleer via sociale netwerktools als Facebook en Twitter.
Ook deze aflevering in zes fragmenten, met wederom een uur aan kijkplezier.
Een BBC documentaire over de voor- en nadelen van het ontspruitende World Wide Web. Meer dan vier uur ‘must see’.
‘The Virtual Revolution is a British television documentary series presented by Aleks Krotoski, which began airing on BBC Two on 30 January 2010. A co-production between the BBC and the Open University, the series looks at the impact the World Wide Web has had since its inception 20 years ago. The series took on a different approach to BBC documentary making by encouraging an open and collaborative production’.
We laten de komende weken alle delen volgen: meer dan vier uur aan video. Het zijn 25 fragmenten, aangezien de volledige delen niet gepubliceerd zijn. Goed om een tijdlang bezig te zijn.

Een Wikileaks documentaire van de BBC die zich nu eens niet concentreert op Assange en consorten, maar op de partij wiens geheimen op straat kwamen te liggen. Of zoals in een uitnodigende beschrijving werd vermeld:
